Yuzvendra Chahal has agreed to pay ₹4.75 crore in alimony to his estranged wife, Dhanashree Verma, as the Bombay High Court expedites their divorce proceedings. The court waived the mandatory six-month cooling-off period typically required under the Hindu Marriage Act, allowing for a faster resolution due to Chahal’s commitments in the upcoming IPL 2025 season.
The couple, who married in December 2020, had been living separately since June 2022 and filed for divorce on February 5, 2025. Justice Madhav Jamdar directed the family court to finalize the divorce by March 20, just days before Chahal’s participation in IPL, where he plays for Rajasthan Royals.
Chahal has already paid ₹2.37 crore of the agreed alimony, with the remaining balance to be settled upon finalization of the divorce. The court’s decision came after considering their long separation and mutual consent for divorce. Despite rumors suggesting Dhanashree requested a significantly higher alimony amount, her family has denied these claims, asserting that no such figure was ever demanded. The case highlights the complexities involved in high-profile separations and the legal frameworks governing them.
