You destroyed them after 2011: Yograj Singh claims BCCI wanted MS Dhoni sacked, slams selectors for ending seven careers

In a scathing interview with InsideSport, former India all‑rounder Yograj Singh—father of Yuvraj Singh—accused the BCCI selectors from the early 2010s of mishandling the careers of seven senior cricketers following India’s historic 2011 World Cup triumph

Yograj clarified that instead of honoring the World Cup heroes, the board abruptly phased out legends such as Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Mohammed Kaif, VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid:

“You (BCCI selectors) just destroyed these boys for no reason… The careers of 7 players were put into the gutter. That is why we are struggling.”

He further alleged that the same committee, led by former selector Mohinder Amarnath, tried to oust MS Dhoni from captaincy after a tough period in Tests—“We lost 5 series when MS Dhoni was the captain and he was told he would be replaced by Mohinder Amarnath…”

However, that move was reportedly vetoed by then-BCCI President N. Srinivasan, who stopped Dhoni’s removal. Dhoni remained at the helm until his eventual retirement from the shorter formats in January 2017.

Yograj’s critique not only reignited debate around how India’s 2011 stalwarts were transitioned out but also highlighted wider concerns about BCCI’s stability and decision-making during the post-trophy era.
