Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) all-rounder Shardul Thakur has expressed frustration with commentators for criticizing players without understanding the challenges faced on the field. Thakur, who was initially unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction, joined LSG as a replacement for injured pacer Mohsin Khan and has emerged as a key performer. With 11 wickets in six matches at an economy rate of 10.38, he is currently the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament and leads among seamers.
Thakur played a pivotal role in LSG’s recent six-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans, claiming the wickets of Sherfane Rutherford and Rahul Tewatia with figures of 4-0-34-2. Reflecting on his performances, Thakur defended bowlers, stating that modern cricket’s trend of high-scoring games makes their task increasingly difficult. “Criticism will always be there, especially from commentators sitting in studios. They don’t see the real picture on the ground. They should look at their own stats before criticizing anyone,” he remarked.
Thakur also lauded LSG’s bowling unit for defending totals in challenging conditions twice this season, showcasing their resilience. His remarkable comeback has propelled LSG to third place on the points table with four wins from six games. Their next match is against Chennai Super Kings on April 14 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
