Shane Watson Criticizes Lack of Clear Planning by Fleming and Dhoni Amid CSK’s IPL 2025 Struggles

The five-time IPL champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), have had a disappointing start to the 2025 season, winning just one match out of four and losing three. Among these losses was a historic defeat to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Chepauk Stadium, marking RCB’s first victory there since 2008. CSK’s struggles stem from poor performances by key players, including MS Dhoni, who has been unable to finish matches effectively and has played slow innings.

Former CSK player Shane Watson shared his thoughts on the team’s challenges, pointing out that coach Stephen Fleming and captain MS Dhoni lack clarity regarding player roles. Watson noted this as unusual for CSK, a team known for carefully planned combinations after mega auctions. He highlighted the frequent changes in the lineup during the first four games as a departure from CSK’s traditional approach.

Watson suggested that Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra form the ideal opening pair, with Ruturaj Gaikwad batting at number three for better balance. Despite Dhoni’s struggles, Watson expressed confidence in his ability to finish games when supported by the top order. As CSK works to address gaps in their lineup, fans hope for a turnaround in the upcoming matches.
