Riyan Parag has been fined ₹12 lakh for slow over rate against Chennai Super Kings

Rajasthan Royals’ stand-in skipper Riyan Parag has been fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during their thrilling six-run victory over Chennai Super Kings in Match 11 of IPL 2025, held on March 30 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. This was Rajasthan’s first win of the season after two consecutive losses to Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders.

The penalty was Impose’ under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offenses. As it was Rajasthan’s first offense of the season, Parag was handed a monetary fine instead of stricter sanctions. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had earlier revised its rules, exempting captains from match bans for repeated slow over-rate violations. Instead, captains now face financial penalties and demerit points based on the severity of the offense.

Parag became the second captain in IPL 2025 to be penalized for a slow over-rate, following Mumbai Indians’ Hardik Pandya, who faced a similar fine earlier in the tournament. Despite the setback, Parag’s leadership helped Rajasthan defend their total successfully, with standout performances from Nitish Rana and Wanindu Hasaranga. Rajasthan will look to build on this momentum in their next match against Punjab Kings.
