Punjab Kings Create History: Defend Lowest Total in IPL to Stun KKR

Punjab Kings scripted history with a sensational 16-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in their IPL 2025 clash at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, on Tuesday. Defending a modest total of 111, PBKS set a new IPL record for the lowest score ever successfully defended in a full 20-over match.

After being put in to bat, Punjab Kings started brightly with openers Priyansh Arya (22) and Prabhsimran Singh (30) but suffered a dramatic collapse, losing wickets in clusters to be bowled out for 111 in just 15.3 overs. Harshit Rana was the pick of the KKR bowlers, claiming 3 for 25, while Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine chipped in with two wickets each.

Chasing 112, KKR appeared in control at 62 for 2, but the game turned on its head as Yuzvendra Chahal spun a web around the middle order, finishing with 4 for 28. Marco Jansen also played a crucial role, dismissing Andre Russell to seal the win. KKR lost their last eight wickets for just 33 runs, eventually being bowled out for 95 in 15.1 overs.

This remarkable comeback not only handed PBKS a memorable win but also left the defending champions KKR stunned, marking one of the most dramatic turnarounds in IPL history.
