Nat Sciver-Brunt has been appointed the new captain of the England Women’s cricket team, succeeding Heather Knight after her nine-year tenure, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on April 29, 2025. Sciver-Brunt, 32, takes over following a difficult period for England, including a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign and a 16-0 Ashes series defeat to Australia, which also led to the resignation of head coach Jon Lewis.
An accomplished all-rounder, Sciver-Brunt has been a key figure in England’s lineup since her debut in 2013. She has won the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year award twice (2022, 2023) and was named PCA Player of the Year in 2017 and 2022. She recently became the first player to score over 500 runs in a single Women’s Premier League season. Sciver-Brunt has played 259 international matches across formats, boasting impressive batting averages and 181 wickets.
Having served as vice-captain under Knight for the past three years, Sciver-Brunt has also captained England in 12 matches, including at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. She expressed pride and excitement at her new role, highlighting her desire to empower teammates and build on a talented, united squad. Her captaincy will begin with England’s upcoming home series against West Indies and India, under new head coach Charlotte Edwards.
