Mumbai Cricket Association Approves Naming Stand at Wankhede Stadium After Rohit Sharma

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has officially approved naming a stand at the iconic Wankhede Stadium after India’s World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma. The decision was ratified during the MCA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on April 15, 2025. This honor places Rohit Sharma alongside legendary Indian cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar, who already have stands named after them at the historic venue.

The stand named after Rohit Sharma will be located at the Divecha Pavilion Level 3. Alongside this, the MCA also approved naming two other stands after former BCCI president Sharad Pawar and the late India captain Ajit Wadekar, further celebrating Mumbai’s rich cricketing heritage.

MCA President Ajinkya Naik expressed pride in honoring pillars of Mumbai cricket, stating that these decisions reflect the deep respect for those who have shaped the city’s cricketing spirit. Rohit Sharma, who led India to the T20 World Cup victory in 2024 and the Champions Trophy win in early 2025, is the first Mumbai cricketer to captain India to these ICC titles.

Having represented Mumbai in domestic cricket throughout his career, Rohit’s contribution to Indian cricket has been immense. This recognition at Wankhede Stadium cements his legacy as one of Mumbai’s greatest cricketing icons.
