Punjab Kings (PBKS) have suffered a significant blow with fast bowler Lockie Ferguson likely to miss the remainder of IPL 2025 due to a serious injury. Ferguson, who is known for his pace, was forced to leave the field after bowling just two deliveries against Sunrisers Hyderabad, clutching his left thigh in discomfort.
PBKS fast bowling coach James Hopes confirmed that Ferguson is out indefinitely, with a low chance of returning before the end of the tournament. This injury continues a troubling trend for Ferguson, who had previously missed the Champions Trophy due to a hamstring issue and also suffered a calf injury late in 2024.
Ferguson’s absence creates a significant void in PBKS’ pace attack, as he had been crucial in the middle overs, picking up five wickets in four matches this season. PBKS are currently sixth in the points table with three wins and two losses. They may consider replacing Ferguson with overseas options like Xavier Bartlett or AzmatullahOmarzai, or rely on Indian bowlers such as Vijaykumar Vyshak and Yash Thakur.
