Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Dwayne Bravo revealed he has sought advice from former mentor Gautam Gambhir to build on the franchise's success in IPL 2024. Bravo, who replaced Gambhir after the latter assumed the role of India’s head coach, admitted to texting him to understand the “successful formula” that helped KKR secure their third IPL title last season. Gambhir, who had previously led KKR to titles in 2012 and 2014 as captain, returned as a mentor last year and played a pivotal role alongside then-captain Shreyas Iyer in breaking the team’s nine-year title drought.
This season, KKR has undergone significant changes. AjinkyaRahane will lead the side, with Venkatesh Iyer as his deputy. Shreyas Iyer has moved to Punjab Kings, while Phil Salt and Mitchell Starc are also unavailable. Despite these departures, Bravo expressed confidence in retaining the core squad and blending Gambhir’s strategies with his own style.
Bravo, who previously played for Shah Rukh Khan-owned Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League, highlighted his excitement about working with KKR. The defending champions will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 22 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
