Jagadeesan is expected to take over from the injured Pant.

The national selectors, the touring team management, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) were searching for a suitable substitute for Pant, who has been sidelined for the series because of a fractured right toe. Pant was hurt while batting on the opening day of the fourth Test match at Old Trafford in Manchester.

The 29-year-old Jagadeesan was finally named and is anticipated to join the team before the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The team's management and selection took into consideration 27-year-old Jharkhandi goalie Ishan Kishan as a potential addition. However, it was later revealed that Kishan was not available.

Jagadeesan was chosen because of his excellent domestic play, particularly with red-ball cricket. In 52 first-class matches, he has scored 3373 runs at a respectable average of 47.50, including 10 centuries and 14 half-centuries.

He scored 674 runs at an outstanding average of 56.16 in eight games during the previous Ranji season, including two hundreds and five fifties, which was the most runs his state had in the championship. Among wicketkeepers, Vidarbha's Akshay Wadkar had the second-best total (722 runs at 45.12 in 10 games).

Another wicketkeeper-batter who is now playing for Dulwich CC in England, KS Bharat, was another possibility available to the selectors. Even though the Andhra keeper participated in a Test match in England, he was ignored.

In the current Old Trafford Test, Dhruv Jurel is already a member of the team and will be taking wickets. KL Rahul, who has taken wickets in international matches, including the World Cup and Champions Trophy, is another option available to India.
