Former India wicketkeeper-batter Vijay Dahiya has been appointed head coach of the Delhi men’s cricket team for the 2026-27 domestic season. Dahiya returns for his fourth stint in charge of the side, replacing Sarandeep Singh, who guided Delhi over the past two seasons.

Interestingly, Sarandeep, who currently heads the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) Cricket Advisory Committee, was part of the panel that recommended Dahiya for the position.

Former Delhi and India fast bowlers Parvinder Awana and Sanjeev Sharma have been appointed as bowling coaches. Kshitiz Sharma and Kuldeep Rawat will serve as assistant coaches.

Dahiya has a long association with Delhi cricket and previously led the team during the 2012-13 season and from 2014-15 to 2015-16. His most notable achievement came in the 2007-08 season, when Delhi won the Ranji Trophy under his guidance.

The former wicketkeeper-batter also has considerable coaching experience outside Delhi. In the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy season, he guided Uttar Pradesh to the semi-finals. At the Indian Premier League level, Dahiya has worked as an assistant coach with Gujarat Titans, Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants. In the recently concluded Delhi Premier League, he coached Purani Dilli 6.

Delhi have also appointed renowned coach Rajkumar Sharma as team mentor. Sharma, who is widely known as Virat Kohli’s childhood coach, has previously worked as Delhi’s bowling coach.

He will mentor not only the senior men’s team but also various age-group teams.

Meanwhile, KP Bhaskar has been retained as Delhi’s chief selector. Manu Nayar and Praveen Gupta will continue as members of the selection committee.

Delhi endured a difficult campaign in the last Ranji Trophy season, recording just one victory from seven matches before being eliminated in the group stage. The team reached the quarter-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy but were unable to progress beyond the group stage in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

With renovation work underway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi will host their domestic matches at the Palam Air Force Ground during the upcoming season.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium is undergoing drainage upgrades, including the conversion of its soil-based outfield to a sand-based surface. The stadium recently hosted three T20Is between India and Afghanistan.

Delhi will begin their Ranji Trophy campaign with an away match against Bengal in Kalyani. They will then host Gujarat on October 18 and Services on November 2.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium is also scheduled to host an ODI between India and Sri Lanka on December 13. However, the match could be moved to another venue if the ongoing renovation work is not completed in time.
