In SRH vs GT match, BCCI punishes Ishant Sharma after on-field outburst

Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer Ishant Sharma faced disciplinary action from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday. Ishant, who has struggled in IPL 2025, conceded 53 runs in four overs during the game, taking his total to 97 runs conceded across three wicketless matches.

The BCCI fined Ishant 25% of his match fees and issued him one demerit point for a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. This article pertains to actions outside normal cricket behavior, such as damaging equipment or fixtures due to frustration or negligence. Ishant admitted to the offence and accepted the match referee’s decision, which is final and binding.

Despite Ishant’s poor form, GT secured a commanding seven-wicket victory over SRH, thanks to Mohammed Siraj’s stellar bowling performance. Siraj took 4/17, helping restrict SRH to 152/8. In response, Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 61 and Washington Sundar’s counter-attacking 49 ensured GT’s third consecutive win. Siraj, with nine wickets in four matches, has been instrumental in GT’s strong start in IPL 2025.
