The Pakistan Super League (PSL), established in 2016, is set to expand from six to eight teams by its 11th season in 2026, according to COO Salman Naseer. The league initially featured five franchises—Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi, and Quetta Gladiators—with Multan Sultans joining in 2018. Naseer emphasized the PSL’s success in reviving cricket in Pakistan and hinted at extending its reach beyond traditional centers like Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Multan.
The upcoming 10th season in 2025 will be the last with six teams and is scheduled from April 11 to May 18. This timing directly clashes with the IPL, which runs from March 22 to May 25. The PCB plans to shift the PSL permanently to an April-May window despite concerns over player availability and competition with the IPL. Franchise opposition remains strong, but the PCB aims to address these issues by tweaking player recruitment rules and offering financial incentives.
In PSL 9, Islamabad United claimed their third title by defeating Multan Sultans in the final. Multan had dominated the points table with seven wins out of ten matches, while Lahore Qalandars finished last with just one victory.
