Head coach Gautam Gambhir has praised his working relationship with Indian captain Rohit Sharma, describing it as “fabulous.” Gambhir took over as head coach after mentoring Kolkata Knight Riders to victory in IPL 2025, succeeding Rahul Dravid following India’s T20 World Cup win. The duo first collaborated during the Sri Lanka tour last year and have since experienced both successes and setbacks, including winning home series but losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
Gambhir highlighted Rohit’s qualities as a person, stating that being a good human being contributes to his leadership abilities. “Forget about Rohit as a captain. I think he’s just a great guy, and that is something that’s important. When you’re a good human being, you end up becoming a good leader,” Gambhir noted.
Under their leadership, India has reached the final of the Champions Trophy 2025, set to face New Zealand on March 9. Gambhir expressed hope that Rohit will excel both as a batter and leader in the upcoming match. India aims to secure their third Champions Trophy title, having dominated the group stage with wins over Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand before defeating Australia in the semifinals.
