Punjab Kings (PBKS) have confirmed that Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2025 due to a fractured finger. Maxwell sustained the injury during a training session before PBKS’s rain-affected match against Kolkata Knight Riders. Despite the injury, he played that game but managed only 7 runs, continuing a difficult season with the bat.
PBKS announced Maxwell’s exit on their official social media, wishing him a speedy recovery. The 36-year-old had a disappointing IPL 2025 campaign, scoring just 48 runs in six innings at an average of 8 and a strike rate under 100. However, he contributed with the ball as well, taking four wickets in 13 overs.
Head coach Ricky Ponting confirmed the team is actively searching for a replacement but noted the challenge of finding quality options mid-season, especially with the Pakistan Super League underway. Ponting mentioned that the franchise is also considering promoting young Indian talent and evaluating players like Azmatullah Omarzai, Aaron Hardie, and Xavier Bartlett for the role.
PBKS currently sit second on the points table and will look to strengthen their squad as they prepare for upcoming matches in Dharamsala against Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals. The team must finalize Maxwell’s replacement before their 12th league game as per IPL regulations.
