From 5th T20I vs New Zealand, Pakistan drop under-performing spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi

Pakistan’s cricket management has taken a decisive step by leaving out underperforming pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi from the playing XI for the fifth T20I against New Zealand. Despite the series already being decided with New Zealand holding a 3-1 lead, the decision underscores Afridi’s struggles throughout the series, where he managed only two wickets and went wicketless in three matches.

In the fourth T20I at Mount Maunganui, Afridi had a particularly disappointing outing, conceding 49 runs in just four overs. His recent form has been concerning, as he also struggled during the Champions Trophy 2025, taking only two wickets in two matches and giving away 142 runs in 108 deliveries.

The hosts have dominated the series, winning the first two matches convincingly before Pakistan managed a comeback in the third T20I. However, they faltered again in the fourth match. With Afridi’s performance falling short of expectations, former players and fans have called for a reassessment of his role in the team. As Pakistan prepares for their final T20I, they aim to end the series on a high note while evaluating their squad for future competitions.

Pakistan (Playing XI): Mohammad Haris(w), Hasan Nawaz, Salman Agha©, OmairYousuf, Usman Khan, Shadab Khan, Abdul Samad, Jahandad Khan, Haris Rauf, SufiyanMuqeem, Mohammad Ali
