For IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals new captain Axar Patel joins DC camp, receives grand welcome

Axar Patel, fondly called “Bapu,” has officially joined Delhi Capitals’ camp as their newly appointed captain for IPL 2025. Axar, who was retained by the franchise before the auction, received a grand welcome upon his arrival. The 31-year-old all-rounder takes over the leadership role after Rishabh Pant’s departure to Lucknow Super Giants. Axar’s appointment follows his crucial contribution to India’s Champions Trophy 2025 victory, where he claimed five wickets.

Delhi Capitals shared a video of Axar’s stylish entry on Instagram, showcasing his calm demeanor and his aspirations for the upcoming season. Having been with the franchise since 2019, Axar has consistently performed with both bat and ball. In IPL 2024, he served as vice-captain and briefly led the team in one match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he scored 57 runs but faced defeat.

Axar’s elevation to captaincy reflects his growing stature in Indian cricket. With over 150 IPL matches under his belt, he has scored 1,653 runs and taken 123 wickets. As captain, Axar aims to lead Delhi Capitals to their maiden IPL title after three disappointing seasons. The team will kick off their campaign on March 24 against Lucknow Super Giants in Visakhapatnam.
