For being 9th most-searched athlete, Shashank Singh credits PBKS, eager to meet captain Shreyas Iyer
Shashank Singh, Punjab Kings’ star batter, credited his IPL franchise for his rise to becoming the ninth most-searched athlete on Google in 2024. Following a stellar IPL season where he scored 354 runs at a strike rate of 164.65, Singh emerged as the team’s top run-scorer and a reliable finisher. Reflecting on this recognition, Shashank expressed gratitude towards Punjab Kings for their consistent support and acknowledged the validation his hard work received. “I didn’t know Google releases such rankings. It’s a big thing, and it’s all thanks to Punjab Kings,” he said.
Shashank is excited to play under ShreyasIyer’s captaincy in IPL 2025. Having shared a strong bond with Iyer from their junior cricket days and the DY Patil T20 Cup, he looks forward to reuniting with him and teammate SuryanshShegde. Retained by PBKS for ₹5.50 crore, Singh aims to further contribute to the team’s success under the guidance of head coach Ricky Ponting.
Despite initial confusion during the IPL 2024 auction over selecting the “wrong” Shashank, the franchise’s faith in him paid off as he became one of their standout players. Now, Singh is determined to deliver another impactful season in IPL 2025.
