Following the Temba Bavuma injury, Herschelle Gibbs cried into him, calling him 'unfit and overweight'.

Former South Africa opener Herschelle Gibbs hit out at South Africa Test captain Temba Bavuma, calling him unfit and overweight. Bavuma limped off after picking up an injury while fielding against India on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test.

Dean Elgar, who is playing his final Test series before retiring from international cricket, took over the captaincy following Bavuma’s injury in the first session.

The incident occurred during the 20th over, after South Africa won the toss and opted to field first. During a chase to stop a shot from the Indian batter Virat Kohli, Bavuma injured himself, suffering a strain on his left hamstring.

Replying to a post on ‘X’, Gibbs tore into the South African skipper, calling him ‘unfit and overweight to play’.

Gibbs posted on X, “Ironic that the coach allows some players who are clearly unfit and overweight to play when he started off as a proteas trainer in 2009.”
