Despite the Mumbai Indians shake-up Rohit Sharma remains ‘1st choice’ for T20 World Cup captaincy

As the cricketing world gears up for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to be held in the West Indies and the USA, the big question looms over who will lead the Indian team in this mega tournament. While speculation arose after Rohit’s captaincy change in the IPL, recent reports confirm that Rohit Sharma is still the “first choice” to lead India in the T20 World Cup next year.
During the ODI World Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma showcased exceptional leadership skills, solidifying his standing as the favorite for the T20 captaincy. However, with his recent removal from the Mumbai Indians’ captaincy, some thought Hardik Pandya might take the reins for both the IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup.
Contrary to these speculations, a BCCI official affirmed that Rohit Sharma remains India’s captain in all formats, unaffected by the Mumbai Indians’ decisions.
Despite Rohit not playing a T20I since November 10, 2022, the official confirmed that if both Rohit and Hardik are fit and available, Rohit Sharma would lead India in the T20 World Cup next year.
