South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch has been banned from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for one year after withdrawing from the 2025 season to join Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the suspension, citing Bosch’s breach of his contractual obligations with Peshawar Zalmi. Bosch had been selected by Zalmi in January’s PSL draft but opted to replace injured South African Lizaad Williams in Mumbai Indians’ IPL squad, triggering disciplinary action due to overlapping schedules of PSL and IPL this year.
The PCB issued a legal notice to Bosch, arguing that his withdrawal constituted a violation of the player agreement. In its statement, the PCB confirmed Bosch’s ineligibility for next year’s PSL. The decision aims to uphold league credibility amid concerns that such moves could set a precedent for players prioritizing IPL over PSL.
Bosch expressed regret over his decision and apologized publicly, stating, “I deeply regret my actions and offer sincere apologies to the fans of Peshawar Zalmi and Pakistan cricket.” He emphasized that his choice was career-driven, citing Mumbai Indians’ global stature and potential benefits for his professional growth.
The controversy highlights challenges arising from concurrent scheduling of PSL and IPL for the first time since PSL’s inception. While some argue for strict penalties to deter similar actions, others suggest symbolic measures to avoid alienating players. Bosch hopes to return to PSL in the future with renewed commitment and trust from fans.
