The head coach of team Australia Andrew McDonald on Friday said that captain of Australia cricket team Mitchell Marsh is not going to bowl in the T20 World Cup opener match against Oman on June 6 and is going to play only as a batsman as he continuous his recovery from the hamstring injury which he sustain during the Indian Premier league season 2024.
Marsh played both the warmer matches of the World Cup against Namibia and the co-host West Indies in Trinidad, where he scored 18 and 4 runs, respectively, but the pace bowling all-rounder did not field for the full bowling innings in either game, with Matthew Wade taking over captaincy duties in his absence.
McDonald says, “For Mitch, the warm-up matches were about ticking off where his body was at.”
He further said, “He fielded more overs tonight in the warm-up match against the West Indies; he was able to move more freely, so he is building a little bit of confidence there; it looks as though he is also set for the first match.”
