The Calcutta High Court, presided by Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee, has directed Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami to disburse ₹4 lakh in monthly maintenance to his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, and their daughter, Aaira. The court specified ₹1.5 lakh for Hasin and ₹2.5 lakh for their daughter, amounts to be paid until the conclusion of their ongoing divorce and related hearings.
In response, Hasin Jahan disclosed that she had been a model and actor before marriage, but Shami insisted she abandon her career to become a homemaker—a decision she complied with out of love. Now, without independent income, she is dependent on the court's ruling.
Shami’s lawyer Imtiaz Ahmed welcomed the court’s order, calling it a significant relief for Hasin. He noted that the trial court now has six months to finalize the maintenance amount. If Hasin’s full claim—which included ₹7 lakh for herself and ₹3 lakh for their daughter—is upheld, the total monthly support could rise to ₹6 lakh .
Additionally, the judgment permits Shami to voluntarily contribute extra—especially towards his daughter’s education—beyond the mandated sums.
