Bowling Coach Morne Morkel Leaves India's Camp In Dubai To Return Home

India’s bowling coach, MorneMorkel, has departed from the team’s practice camp in Dubai due to a personal emergency, reportedly the passing of his father. Morkel, who was appointed to the role in September 2024, had joined the Indian squad on February 15 and participated in their first practice session ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. However, he was absent from the second session held on February 17, leading to speculation about his situation.

The exact timeline for Morkel’s return remains uncertain, raising concerns within the team as they prepare for their opening match against Bangladesh on February 20 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. His unexpected absence adds pressure on the remaining coaching staff, especially with star pacer JaspritBumrah already missing from the lineup.

The ICC Champions Trophy is set to begin on February 19, with Pakistan facing New Zealand in the opening match. India will play all its matches in Dubai due to security concerns preventing travel to Pakistan. The high-stakes encounter between India and Pakistan is scheduled for February 23, followed by a match against New Zealand on March 2. Morkel’s departure marks a significant challenge for Team India as they aim for success in this prestigious tournament.
