Gill and Sudharsan got to their centuries in exactly 50 balls, became the first opening pair to hit centuries, and equaled the record for the highest-ever opening partnership.
Sai and Shubman may have singlehandedly won the Gujarat Titans the match. The captain of GT got to his hundred in just 50 balls and scored the 100th IPL. Brendon McCullum was the first player to score a tonne in the IPL, and 17 years later, it’s Gill who completes the century.
The duo also became the first opening pair to score a hundred in the IPL’s history. Sudharsan also got to his hundred in 100 balls, and the duo tied the record for the highest opening partnership in the league, scoring 210 runs and equaling KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock’s 210-run stand against the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022.
Sai Sudharsan has been criticized for his slow strike rate in IPL 2024. Despite being the Gujarat Titans' highest run scorer, the Southpaw couldn’t escape the scrutiny. In what has been a highly scoring season, Sudharsan, as a top-order batter, was scoring just at a strike rate of 114 in the powerplay.
