Both Mayank Yadav and Sanju Samson are in contention for the upcoming Zimbabwe series
After a solid IPL 2024 and an otherwise decent show in the limited opportunities he has gotten in international cricket, Sanju Samson is most likely to get a chance in the IND vs. ZIM series that will follow the T20 World Cup.
As confirmed by the news website, the IPL performers like Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, and Mayank Yadav are set to be considered for the IND vs. ZIM series once the new coach, most likely Gautam Gambhir, comes in. Also, it goes without saying that the senior players of the team, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, will be rested.
As per a senior BCCI official, “The squad is supposed to be announced by next week. But I’m not sure when Ajit Agarkar could discuss a few names with the new coach. If the new coach selection is delayed, they will announce the squad any time next week.”
It also remains to be seen whether the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav will be a part of the team, as they too have had a long run, with the IPL 2024 and now the T20 World Cup. “All the players have had a long IPL and T20 World Cup. They all need workload management. Whether Rishabh will play in Zimbabwe will depend on his condition. Even though he was out for so long, he has been playing constant cricket since IPL,” the BCCI official said.
