After the disheartening defeat of India in the first red-ball encounter of their ongoing South Africa tour, the team members are under intense scrutiny, with skipper Rohit Sharma emerging as the primary target of both trolls and critics. The questions surrounding him extend beyond his individual batting performance in the clash, now encompassing doubts about his leadership skills.
Amidst this challenging scenario, Indian veteran Subramaniam Badrinath did not hold back in his critique of Rohit’s captaincy, offering severe comments on the skipper’s leadership abilities.
Badrinath raised a pertinent question about the absence of Kohli from the Test captaincy, emphasizing that the 35-year-old is a superior red-ball batter compared to Rohit. He highlighted the exceptional track record of Kohli in the longest format, asserting that the Delhi-born cricketer, being a strong player, should be leading the Test team.
Badrinath said in a video on his YouTube channel, “Why is he (Virat) not the captain of the Test team? I want to raise this valid question. He is a better test batter. There is no comparison between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He is a big player in terms of Test cricket. He has scored runs everywhere. Why is he not leading and a weaker player?”
He further added, “As far as I am concerned, a weaker player (Rohit) who is not yet proven as an opener. He has been in and out. We can consider all of that. But I think Rohit Sharma has not proven himself as an opener outside India. Why is he there?"
