The Pakistan Cricket Board has received a big blow. With the BCCI still refusing to send their team to visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023, the ICC is likely to shift the venue for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan will receive compensation, while the USA is the likely venue for the Champions Trophy in 2025. Furthermore, the ICC is also considering a shift in venue for the T20 World Cup 2024, with the defending champions England as the frontrunner to host the mega event.
As per the report, the discussion is at a very early stage and is only between the respective cricket boards, the ICC, and other stakeholders. Another notable point to be noted is that the broadcasters for the next ICC media rights are interested in the proposed idea.
In case the T20 World Cup shifts out of the USA and West Indies, England is going to be the main contender for hosting the T20 World Cup in 2024. England has emerged as the viable option because it is best suited to pull off the event in June, the month originally allocated to the Caribbean and the USA to host the T20 World Cup. England, Ireland, and Scotland are also slated to host the T20 World Cup in 2030. But that could change if England entirely hosts the 2024 T20 World Cup.
