Before the start of the Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023, which are going to be held in India in the months of October and November, the Pakistan cricket team climbed to the top of the ICC ODI Rankings for teams. Pakistan defeated Afghanistan 3-0 in the three-match series, after which they surpassed Australia in the standings. Prior to the Afghanistan series, Australia occupied the No. 1 spot, with Pakistan placed second at 115.8 rating points. However, the series win over Afghanistan saw the Babar Azam-led team leapfrog Australia at the top with 118.48 rating points. The Indian cricket team, which had recently defeated the West Indies 2-1 in an ODI series, occupies the third spot in the rankings.
Zaka Ashraf, who is the chairman of the PCB Management Committee, expressed his happiness over Pakistan taking the top spot in the ODI rankings.
Ashraf said that "this achievement reflects the hard work, dedication, and unity exhibited by our talented players and their unwavering focus on excellence. It is a proud moment for all of us as the Pakistan cricket team reclaims the top spot in the ODI rankings."
He also added that "I also want to congratulate and laud the efforts of the entire squad, coaching staff, and support personnel for their collective commitment to raising the flag of Pakistan high in the world of cricket."
