The Indian cricket team will probably have a new captain leading them in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 and also in the ODI World Cup in 2027. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel is set to discuss the future of white-ball formats with skipper Rohit Sharma. The opening batsman will be 40 by the time the next World Cup takes place in South Africa and Zimbabwe in 2027. Rohit will be 37 when the T20 World Cup 2024 commences on June 4 in the USA and the West Indies. But even in T20Is, it’s unclear whether the white-ball captain will feature.
However, according to a report, Rohit has already conveyed to selectors to look beyond him in the T20 format. He is okay with him not being part of the shortest format of the game, as BCCI selectors are heavily investing in the youth.
As per the statement of a source, “Before the ODI World Cup, Rohit had communicated that he was fine not being considered for T20Is. The selectors have been investing heavily in youth in T20Is for the last year. With the T20 World Cup happening in June next year, they are reluctant to deviate from that strategy for a longer period of time.”
