BCCI has banned Harry Brook for 2 years in IPL as he decided to skip IPL this season at the last moment

Harry Brook, the 26-year-old England batter, has withdrawn from the upcoming IPL 2025 season, citing his commitment to England cricket and the need to recharge after a busy period in his career. This marks the second consecutive year Brook has pulled out of the IPL, having previously withdrawn from the 2024 season due to personal reasons following a family bereavement.

Brook’s decision puts him at risk of facing a two-year ban from the IPL under the league’s new regulations. The BCCI introduced a rule last year to address the issue of overseas players withdrawing after securing contracts. The rule states that any foreign player who registers for the auction and makes himself unavailable before the start of the season after being picked will be banned from participating in the IPL and IPL auction for two seasons.

While Brook faces the possibility of a ban until 2028, the IPL has not yet issued an official statement on the matter. Brook was picked by Delhi Capitals for Rs 6.25 crore at the mega auction last year. His withdrawal allows him an extended break ahead of a packed year for England cricket, including a five-Test series against India in the summer and the Ashes in Australia. Additionally, Brook is now considered a frontrunner for the England white-ball captaincy following Jos Buttler’s resignation.
