BCCI bows down to Gautam Gambhir’s demand as Abhishek Nayar sets to become India’s new assistant coach

After the appointment of Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of Team India, everyone is thinking about who will be his supporting staff. The contracts of fielding coach T Dilip, batting coach Vikram Rathour, and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey expired along with Rahul Dravid’s run as head coach. According to a report, the batting coach of KKR, Abhishek Nayar, is set to join Gautam Gambhir in the Team India setup.
According to a report, Gambhir specifically asked for Abhishek Nayar following their successful stint with KKR in the IPL 2024. Abhishek has been a vital part of the KKR setup for quite some time now. A lot of KKR youngsters have spoken highly of Nayar, with Gambhir being impressed by Nayar’s work ethic as well.
The report further claims that Gambhir is likely to retain fielding coach T. Dilip. BCCI issued a statement to thank the whole support staff of Dravid. It led to speculation that they were all being let go.
For the bowling coach position, the report claims that names like Lakshmipathy Balaji and Vinay Kumar are being discussed. Notably, both have worked with Gambhir in the past. The BCCI is likely to announce the deputies of Gambhir within a few days, with most of Gambhir’s demands set to be met.
