With David Warner being the captain of DC in the absence of Rishabh Pant in the IPL 2023 season, DC lost five games in a row.
Talks about a change in captaincy might have crossed the minds of the management of DC, with Axar being the vice captain, but he made it very clear that taking captaincy in the middle of the season might have disrupted the team environment.
Axar Patel said, "Mai chaalu series mey kisi ko kuch nahi bolta. Agar mere pass captaincy aati bhi toh mai leta nahih nahi bolta." Agar mere pass captaincy aati bhi toh mai leta nahi. Mere captaincy lene se sab kuch change nahi ho jata. Aisa nahi tha ki ek banda kharab kar raha tha. Usme captain kya kar sakta hai."
