Australian coach says David Warner is showing good signs before the ashes

Andrew McDonald, who is the head coach of Team Australia, has backed his openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja to rebound in the Ashes after the pair failed to manage any big partnership as they scored only 4 runs in their partnership during the final win of the World Test Championship over India.

During the 2019 Ashes Series, Team Australia struggled to score runs as their top order failed to give a solid start, with David Warner dismissed by Stuart Broad around seven times and finishing with an average of 9.50.

McDonald told the Australian media, "I thought Davey moved well in the first innings against India. He got strangled down the leg side. You look at that, and you say, "A little bit of luck there, and potentially that's a bigger score. But the way he moved and the way he played are exactly what we want.”

Usman Khawaja was dropped after playing three test matches in the 2019 Ashes, but the left-hander has piled on the runs since his comeback into the team for the Sydney Test match against the England Cricket Team in January 2022.
