As the ICC lifts its suspension after 2 months, there is relief for Sri Lankan cricket

Sri Lanka Cricket can breathe a sigh of relief. The International Cricket Council has lifted the suspension after two months. Following the suspension, Sri Lanka lost the hosting rights to the ICC U19 World Cup. There were also doubts regarding the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. But now, SLC is back in the fold. The ICC banned SLC on November 10 for political interference.
The ICC said in a statement that “the ICC Board has been monitoring the situation since the suspension and is now satisfied that SLC is no longer in breach of its membership obligations.”
The ICC imposed a ban on Sri Lanka Cricket on November 10 during the World Cup 2023 for violation of responsibilities as an ICC Member.
In the suspension letter, the ICC wrote that SLC failed in “the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that there is no government interference in the governance, regulation, and/or administration of cricket in Sri Lanka.”
However, Sri Lanka could continue to play international cricket in both bilateral and ICC tournaments.
