As Ravi Ashwin retires from International cricket, Jay Shah, Gautam Gambhir hail praises for “magician”

Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket after the third Test against Australia in Brisbane, concluding a remarkable 14-year career. Ashwin, 38, leaves as India’s second-highest wicket-taker in Tests with 537 scalps from 106 matches and has also scored 3,503 runs, including six centuries. His retirement sparked an outpouring of tributes on social media, notably from Jay Shah and GautamGambhir.

Jay Shah, the ICC Chairperson, praised Ashwin as a “magician” and a transformative player for Indian cricket, wishing him the best for the future. “One of @bcci’s greatest match-winners – a magician with the ball and an astute thinker of the game. An international career to be proud of @ashwinravi99, wishing you the best for the future,” Jay Shah wrote on social media.

Gambhir emphasized that Ashwin’s legacy would inspire future generations of cricketers. Ashwin’s decision came after he was not selected for the Brisbane Test, following a lackluster performance in the previous series against New Zealand.

“The privilege of seeing you grow from a young bowler to a legend of modern cricket is something that I wouldn’t trade for the world! I know that generations of bowlers to come will say that I became a bowler coz of Ashwin! U will be missed brother! @ashwinravi99,” Gambhir wrote on X.
