As per report, Pakistan sack more than 100 policemen for refusing duty in Champions Trophy 2025 security arrangements

Over 100 police officers from Pakistan’s Punjab Police were dismissed for refusing to perform their security duties during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The officers, from various wings of the force, were assigned to secure teams traveling between Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and designated hotels but either remained absent or refused to take up their responsibilities.

The dismissals were ordered by Punjab Inspector General of Police Usman Anwar, who emphasized that negligence in security for international events is unacceptable. Local media reports suggest that the officers felt overburdened by long working hours, leading to stress and exhaustion.

This development comes amid heightened security concerns, with the Pakistan Intelligence Bureau issuing a high alert over potential threats to foreign nationals attending the tournament. However, Federal Information Minister AttaullahTarar has dismissed reports of a terrorist threat, stating that Pakistan is hosting the event peacefully and successfully.

Pakistan’s early elimination from the tournament, following losses to New Zealand and India, may have also influenced some officers’ decisions to avoid duty. Despite these challenges, the tournament continues with a focus on maintaining robust security measures. The incident highlights the complexities of hosting major international events, where both security and personnel management are critical.
