As per Report, BCCI postpones meeting on central contract & England series

The BCCI meeting scheduled for Saturday, March 29, in Guwahati has been postponed indefinitely, leaving key decisions unresolved. The meeting was set to address crucial topics, including the central contracts for the men’s team and preparations for India’s upcoming England tour. Discussions with head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar were also planned, focusing on finalizing the contracts and identifying a potential successor to Rohit Sharma as Test captain.

Reports suggest that Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja are likely to retain their A-plus contracts. However, questions remain about Rohit’s future in Test cricket following his recent struggles. Similarly, Kohli’s performance in the England tour will be pivotal in determining his role in the Test format. India is set to play five Tests against England starting June 20 at Headingley, Leeds.

Additions to the central contract list are expected, with Shreyas Iyer likely to return after his stellar Champions Trophy performances. Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy is also poised to earn his first contract after playing a crucial role in India’s Champions Trophy victory.

The postponed meeting underscores growing concerns about the senior men’s team’s future in Test cricket amid recent poor performances and upcoming challenges.
