As Gautam Gambhir arrives to take charge of KKR, hundreds of fans throng Kolkata airport
Ahead of IPL 2024, the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders’ GautamGambhir landed in Kolkata on Thursday. Gambhir was welcomed at the Kolkata airport by hundreds of supporters, who rejoiced at the second homecoming of KKR’s most successful captain.
Gambhir has been the only KKR captain to lead the franchise to an IPL trophy. He won the IPL twice for the franchise, in 2012 and 2014. Till date, those are the only two IPL trophies the franchise has won. Since Gambhir was at the helm of the franchise during that time period, it is no surprise that KKR fans love the former Indian opener dearly.
The affection was on full display when Gambhir landed at the Kolkata airport ahead of IPL 2024. Hundreds of KKR supporters thronged the arrival gate of the airport to catch a glimpse of Gambhir. Chants of “We love GG” reverberated in the air as Gambhir made his way outside the airport.

Gambhir will look to bring back KKR’s glory days after a decade. Captained by Shreyas Iyer, KKR looks like a force to be reckoned with. The franchise also bought Mitchell Starc for Rs 24.75 crore at the IPL 2024 auction, making him the most expensive player in the IPL.
