Aravinda de Silva on India vs. New Zealand says, ‘Anyone’s Game When It Comes To Semis: A Pressure Game’

It’s no surprise that the semi-final clash of the India vs. New Zealand World Cup 2023 is on everyone’s mind, and the ICC Hall of Fame event in Mumbai on Tuesday was no different. Former Sri Lanka cricketer Aravinda de Silva, the recent inductee along with Virender Sehwag and Diana Edulji, is no stranger to a knockout fixture of a multi-nation event and feels handling pressure is key during this “vital stage”.

De Silva, who played a starring role in Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup campaign, says, “It’s anyone’s game when it comes to semifinals; it’s a pressure game. It’s a knockout game, and it’s not like you have seven or eight games to play where there is a chance to come back. This is the vital stage where you need to fire on all cylinders at the right time. Pressure will be on both sides, and it will be about how you handle the pressure and how many players on your side handle it well.”
