Before entering the ICC ODI Men’s World Cup 2023, Shreyas Iyer has to score some big runs. The middle-order batsman has returned to competitive cricket after a long break due to injury; however, he got to bat in just two matches since his return and failed to make any impact. He missed out on scoring big in the first ODI against Australia and was run out for just 3. There are some concerns over his fitness too, after he missed the Super 4 stage and final of the Asia Cup due to a back spasm.
Apart from Iyer, the eyes will be on the performance of Ravichandran Ashwin once again, as he has to make a place for himself to get a last-minute entry into the World Cup squad. He managed to take just 1 wicket in the opening ODI, but the team would want him to contribute more with the ball in the middle overs when, on Sunday, India will face Australia for the second ODI match against India.
