Just weeks before the start of the IPL 2024 season, title defender Chennai Super Kings have received a blow with the confirmation of a hamstring injury to Sri Lanka pacer MatheeshaPathirana.
With the IPL 2024 season fast approaching, CSK have begun their pre-season training camp. While some Indian players have joined skipper MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad, international players like Pathirana are yet to integrate.
This news is particularly concerning for CSK, who are already missing key opener Devon Conway for the first half of the season due to injury.
Concerns about the fitness of Pathirana arose during the second T20I between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh earlier this week. The young pacer was seen struggling with his hamstring while bowling and eventually left the field. This followed an incident in the previous game where he experienced cramps, requiring attention from the physio.
While initial reports suggested a serious injury, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has confirmed a grade-1 hamstring strain, typically requiring a recovery period of a couple of weeks. This means Pathirana will definitely miss the IPL opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22nd.
