Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar has been fined ₹12 lakh by the BCCI for maintaining a slow over-rate during their IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on April 7. This marks RCB’s first offence of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate violations.
Despite the penalty, Patidar led his team to a thrilling 12-run victory, breaking RCB’s 10-year jinx at Wankhede Stadium. Batting first, RCB posted an imposing total of 221 runs, with Patidar delivering a stellar knock of 64 runs off just 32 balls at a strike rate of 200. His performance earned him the Player of the Match award. In reply, Mumbai Indians managed only 209 runs, falling short despite a spirited chase.
Patidar’s captaincy has drawn praise for his strategic decisions during the game, including his smart use of bowlers in high-pressure situations. With this win, RCB climbed to third place on the points table, boasting three victories from four matches and accumulating six points.
RCB will next face Delhi Capitals at home on April 10 as they aim to maintain their strong form in IPL 2025.
