After the BCCI Central Contract snub, Shreyas Iyer falters in the Ranji Trophy semi-finals

Shreyas Iyer has faltered against Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy semi-finals. Hopes were high for the star batter to let his bat do the talking after he was axed from the BCCI Central Contracts. However, Iyer could only manage 3 runs in Mumbai’s first innings against Tamil Nadu.
Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were axed from their BCCI Central Contracts for 2023–24. Reason? The duo failed to play domestic cricket matches. Both Jay Shah and Rahul Dravid urged the players to play domestic matches to remain in contention for national team selection.
However, after his BCCI contract snub, Iyer was spotted in action for the first time in the Ranji Trophy semi-finals. Earlier, he played his last match in the IND vs. ENG 2nd Test in Vizag. Iyer was then dropped from Team India, but the player complained of back spasms.
Reports claim that Iyer failed to convey his message to the NCA, and as a result, the NCA declared him to be fit. When asked to play domestic matches, Iyer didn’t complain about his back spasms. However, to work on his fitness and game management, Iyer took part in the Kolkata Knight Riders camp. Subsequently, he was dropped from the BCCI Central contract.
