Jasprit Bumrah was awarded Player of the Series in the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy after taking an impressive 32 wickets across five matches. Despite his stellar performance, India lost the final Test in Sydney by six wickets, resulting in a 3-1 series defeat to Australia.
During the Sydney Test, Bumrah suffered from back spasms and bowled only 10 overs before leaving the field, expressing frustration over his injury. He stated, “You have to respect your body… Felt discomfort and wanted to check what it was.”
Bumrah’s remarkable achievement equaled Harbhajan Singh’s record for the most wickets in an India vs. Australia Test series. Additionally, he surpassed Bishan Singh Bedi’s record for the most wickets by an Indian bowler on Australian soil, with match hauls of 8/72 in Perth and 9/156 in Melbourne among others. His absence during crucial moments in the final Test left India short-handed, which affected their ability to defend a target of 162 runs.
