After poor show in BGT, Shubman Gill opens up on struggles in red-ball cricket

Shubman Gill recently opened up about his struggles in red-ball cricket despite scoring a commendable 102 runs against Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy. His innings, which featured 14 fours and three sixes, was not enough to save Punjab, who lost by an innings and 207 runs. Reflecting on his performance, Gill acknowledged that he often feels pressure to convert starts into big scores, stating, “Red-ball batting is a concern… I sometimes lose focus and concentration.”

His recent form has been disappointing; in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he managed only 93 runs in three matches, leading to his exclusion from the fourth Test. At just 25 years old, Gill is determined to improve as he prepares for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, where he will serve as vice-captain. He emphasized the importance of staying in the right mindset during innings and maintaining focus to achieve consistency in his performance.
