After Perth Test loss Mitchell Starc accepts fault says, “We were under par”

India inflicted a crushing 295-run defeat on Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, taking a 1-0 lead in the series. After being bowled out for just 150 in their first innings, India made a remarkable comeback, with YashasviJaiswal scoring 161 runs and ViratKohli contributing an unbeaten century to set Australia a daunting target of 534.

Mitchell Starc said after the game,“After the first innings, we thought it was probably under par and thought we bowled quite well. We know and understand that India is such a good team in bat and ball and is led by Jasprit. We were certainly under par after being bowled out for 100. I won’t say complacency caught out.”

Mitchell Starc went on to explain that Australia’s first innings score of being all out for just 104 runs was subpar compared to India’s knock of 150 runs. Come the second innings India reigned supreme to score a mammoth total.

Of the chief architects of Australia’s destruction was young YashasviJaiswal. Mitchell Starc claimed that Jaiswal is extremely talented and will continue to play for the India Cricket Team for a very long time.

“On the second day, the wicket dried out and obviously, the cracks appeared. He (YashasviJaiswal) is a skillful player, he’s a huge talent in India and would a lot of cricket for his country. He chipped away nicely in the first innings, but surely made amends in the second innings,” Starc concluded.
