Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) can breathe a sigh of relief as their INR 2.60 crore signing, Jacob Bethell, is set to participate in the IPL 2025 season. The 21-year-old England all-rounder had suffered a left hamstring injury before the ICC Champions Trophy, ruling him out of the tournament. However, Bethell has recovered in time to make his IPL debut, much to RCB’s delight.
Bethell, known for his explosive batting and left-arm spin, was a key acquisition in RCB’s auction strategy. His presence strengthens a middle order that otherwise lacks proven performers apart from Liam Livingstone. With Phil Salt, Virat Kohli, and Rajat Patidar likely forming the top three, Bethell’s inclusion adds balance to the lineup. The team management is particularly relieved as they won’t need to search for an overseas replacement for Bethell.
Meanwhile, concerns remain over Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood’s availability. Hazlewood, plagued by a calf strain and hip issues, missed several matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and was ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy. Neither RCB nor Cricket Australia has provided an update on his fitness, leaving uncertainty around his participation.
RCB will hope Bethell lives up to expectations as they chase their elusive maiden IPL title in the league’s 18th edition.
