Sarfaraz Khan’s maiden Test century was a momentous achievement, ten years in the making. After making his first-class debut a decade ago, he finally received his call-up to the Indian Test team earlier this year. Sarfaraz had displayed promise with three half-centuries in five innings against England but fell short of a hundred, narrowly missing out on his debut due to a run-out.
During the first Test against New Zealand, Sarfaraz celebrated his long-awaited milestone by scoring 150 runs, receiving accolades from head coach GautamGambhir, captain Rohit Sharma, and former skipper Virat Kohli. He expressed immense pride in their recognition, stating, “It feels so good when a captain & player of Rohit bhai’s stature tells you, ‘well played.’
In addition to his century, Sarfaraz shared a crucial 136-run partnership with Kohli, which significantly contributed to India’s fightback. He described batting alongside Kohli as a dream come true and appreciated the advice Kohli offered him during their innings. He told me to back myself, play freely, and gave me confidence. It was a dream day,“ Sarfaraz Khan said.Sarfaraz’s performance not only marked a personal triumph but also positioned him as a key player for India’s future endeavors on the international stage.
